Terry completed his higher education at Simon Fraser University where he was also a part of the basketball team and a distance runner. He is memorized for the initiation of the "Marathon of Hope" which he performed to raising donations for cancer patients. He ran this marathon with one leg as he lost another one due to cancer. His 143 days run across Canada came to an end with his demise on June 28, 1981, at New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada
